The Sound of Change: Music of the Flamboyant Era
The recent CD recording Flamboyance. The Sound of Change: Music of the Flamboyant Era by the vocal and instrumental Sollazzo Ensemble has been awarded the prestigious Diapason d’Or.
Released as part of the Alamire Foundation Editions series in collaboration with Passacaille, the album was recorded in the exceptional acoustics of AMUZ (Flanders Festival Antwerp). Spanning more than a century, the music takes us from the early Italian Trecento to the dawn of the Burgundian era, tracing how polyphony spread ‘like wildfire’ between north and south, sacred and secular, court and chapel. For the recording, the ensemble expanded to as many as twenty musicians—a line-up evocative of royal banquets and other ceremonial settings.
Rarely has this repertoire found an ensemble so capable of bringing its vitality, power of evocation, and sheer flamboyance so vividly to life.
