For the second year in a row, the Alamire Foundation is organizing an Early Music elective for master's students at LUCA School of Arts Leuven.
Over the course of eight sessions from February to May, the students are being introduced to various aspects of early music, under the overarching theme Polyphony as the Key to Early Music. The program includes, among other things, reading mensural notation, applying solmization, and an introduction to Gregorian chant.
In addition, students will explore historical performance practice, learning to use the musical tools once available to performers. Staff member Stratton Bull teaches the course, joined by guest lecturers Pieter Mannaerts and Pieter De Moor. The course will conclude on 8 May with the students' final presentations at the House of Polyphony, an event that will be open to the public.
