From 16 to 20 March, the Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice, in collaboration with the Alamire Foundation, will host its annual Egida Sartori and Laura Alvini Early Music Seminars for young (semi-)professional musicians specializing in late medieval repertoire.
This year’s edition will focus primarily on the poetic-musical lyrics included in Machaut’s Remède de Fortune and other settings that circulated in Central Europe or Italy in the late fourteenth and early fifteenth centuries. Excerpts from Petrarch’s Trionfi and Canzoniere quoted in settings from the same period will also be discussed.
In addition, the masterclasses and lectures will approach the concept of ‘longevity’ from a variety of perspectives. The principal instructor for this edition is Marc Mauillon, a renowned vocal interpreter of Machaut's repertoire and early music expert. He will be joined by philologist Corrado Bologna and musician Pedro Memelsdorff, who is also the director of the Egida Sartori and Laura Alvini Early Music Seminars.
Further details are available on the website of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini. The application deadline is 5 February 2026.
