From 23 to 27 June, in collaboration with the Alamire Foundation, the "Early Music Seminars Egida Sartori and Laura Alvini" took place at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice, focusing on the composer Johannes Ciconia (1370-1412).

Under the direction of Pedro Memelsdorff, nine internationally selected musicians, isolated from the world on the island of San Giorgio, immersed themselves in the composer's sound world. Ciconia, who came from Liège, caused a sensation in late fourteenth century Rome by creating a new style that combined northern polyphony with Italian trecento music. The concert in Venice was the result of the intensive study programme on Ciconia's oeuvre for emerging international early music musicians, supervised by experts in the field.

During the upcoming edition of Laus Polyphoniae, Pedro Memelsdorff will once again bring Ciconia's sound world to life with the ensemble he founded, Mala Punica, on Sunday 24 August – this time in the Low Countries.
