From 6 to 8 February, the Alamire Foundation organized an interdisciplinary conference in collaboration with KU Leuven and the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR) as part of Troja: Kolloquium und Jahrbuch für Renaissancemusik, at the initiative of staff member Antonio Chemotti.
Ninety researchers from around the world gathered to attend the inspiring sessions, either digitally or live at the House of Polyphony and KBR. The conference was centred around the relationship between the Franco-Flemish musical tradition and Central Europe, as well as the broader historiographical context. This is a fascinating field that had long been neglected; however, more recently it has been attracting more interest in the fields of both musicology and art history.
The Alamire Foundation will also be focusing on its ties to Central Europe in the coming years. We will continue to explore the (undiscovered) musical heritage of the Low Countries that is preserved in prestigious institutions in Central Europe. With new digitization campaigns, publications in the Leuven Library of Music in Facsimile series, and CD recordings in the Alamire Foundation Editions series, we are putting this Franco-Flemish polyphony back on the map. Discover musical treasures from Central European sources in our two Tourout productions with the Czech ensemble Cappella Mariana, available through the Passacaille webshop.
