From 17 to 19 June, the Alamire Foundation made brand new image and sound recordings as part of the Strategic Basic Research Project "New Perspectives on Medieval and Renaissance Courtly Song", funded by the FWO.
The anonymous chanson J’ay des semblans, one of the twelve unique songs from the Leuven Chansonnier, was recorded in AMUZ by Sollazzo Ensemble, conducted by Anna Danilevskaia. The volumetric video studio of 4DR Studios travelled from Eindhoven to the heart of Antwerp for this high-tech recording of the composition in all its dimensions.
The recordings are part of scientific research, the results of which will be integrated into an innovative audiovisual installation for the exhibition The Pursuit of Knowledge at museum M Leuven. The exhibition will run from 9 October as part of the festivities surrounding the 600th anniversary of KU Leuven and will bring together objects from the university’s study collection that play an important role in its education and research. The late fifteenth-century Leuven Chansonnier will also be given pride of place, as visitors will have a rare opportunity to see the book itself, exceptionally on display. The multidisciplinary research thus creates a unique dialogue between the almost 600-year-old songbook, historically informed performance practice, and innovative technology.
