Silentii / GAUDE © Alamire Foundation
In conjunction with Laus Polyphoniae, two artistic sound-installations, developed through the Alamire Foundation, will be exhibited in Antwerp this summer. From 2 July to 8 September, you can visit the Plantin-Moretus Museum to experience Silentii. The speakers of this installation are arranged in an arc, allowing the listener to perceive the music–sung plainchant–in a different way, as a layered sound world is revealed. From 6 June to 1 September, you can also experience GAUDE in St Paul's Church. This sound installation presents the hymn Gaude redempta with its text by Gilles Carlier and music by Guillaume Du Fay. The echoing sounds of this monophonic plainchant gradually move through the space as if sung in an invisible passing procession. We invite you to discover these two sound-artworks by staff member and artist Rudi Knoops, and discover how today's technology allows us to explore this centuries-old musical heritage in new ways.
