On Sunday 21 April, the cultural heritage sector in Flanders will focus on the theme 'Home', the subject of Heritage Day 2024. This year, the Alamire Foundation is once again highlighting the musical heritage from the Low Countries by organizing a musical session at the House of Polyphony. The historic gatehouse located on the site of Park Abbey not only houses a magnificent concert space, but also accommodates a growing collection of historical musical instruments.

This year on Heritage Day our Dutch chamber organ will take centre stage. This valuable instrument with its case in the Viennese Biedermeyer style was built in the nineteenth century by Hans ter Hart junior, presumably in Amsterdam. At the time, such instruments were expensive and exclusive possessions of wealthy merchants, objects to be shown off in the home as testaments to the owner’s wealth. In 2012, this beautiful organ was donated to the Alamire Foundation by the Leuvense Orgelkring.

For the occasion, Stan Van Rompay, coordinator of the Alamire Foundation's collection of musical instruments, will play both religious and secular pieces on the organ and elaborate on the chosen repertoire.

Duration: 20 minutes
