Since 2018, the Library of Voices has been housed in the Sint-Norbertus Gatehouse, located on the historic site of Park Abbey, home to the Alamire Foundation. This high-tech laboratory lies at the heart of both scholarly and practice-based research into the musical heritage of the Low Countries.
The Alamire Foundation transformed the former gatehouse into a cutting-edge documentation centre dedicated to Gregorian chant and Franco-Flemish polyphony. Today, it also serves as the home of the Alamire Digital Lab, a mobile digitization unit that travels the globe to unlock access to precious music manuscripts and early printed sources. The building furthermore houses the Alamire Sound Labs: state-of-the-art acoustic laboratories where researchers can analyse and unravel the acoustics and intricate layers of polyphonic music.
Curious to discover the story behind the innovative reuse of this historic gatehouse? Join one of the three guided tours on Sunday, 13 September at 14:00, 15:00 or 16:00 during Open Monuments Day. The tour includes an exclusive introduction to the work of the Alamire Digital Lab. Be sure to reserve your place soon, as capacity is limited.
