The carefully selected objects in this book, Een geschiedenis van België in honderd voorwerpen (A History of Belgium in One Hundred Objects), ranging from utilitarian objects to major masterpieces, show who we are and where we come from. One of these objects is the songbook of Margaret of Austria, now kept in the Royal Library of Belgium (Ms. 228). The manuscript reflects the important role the sovereign played in promoting and disseminating Franco-Flemish polyphony, which flourished in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
