Throughout history, people have always left behind some of the crumbs that give us a hint of what life was like in the past.

From prehistory to the present day, objects reveal an authentic glimpse of the area stretching from the Ardennes to the North Sea. The carefully selected objects in this book, Een geschiedenis van België in honderd voorwerpen (A History of Belgium in One Hundred Objects), ranging from utilitarian objects to major masterpieces, show who we are and where we come from. One of these objects is the songbook of Margaret of Austria, now kept in the Royal Library of Belgium (Ms. 228). The manuscript reflects the important role the sovereign played in promoting and disseminating Franco-Flemish polyphony, which flourished in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The luxurious manuscript is described in detail in this new publication.

More information about the book can be found on the Lannoo website.
