New CD in the series Alamire Foundation Editions

A brand-new CD of music by Franco-Flemish composers has been released in the series Alamire Foundation Editions, which the Alamire Foundation curates together with the label Passacaille. In this recording, Cappella Mariana under the artistic direction of Vojtěch Semerád continues its exploration of Central European musical culture in the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Their previous recording focused exclusively on the relatively unknown Flemish composer Johannes Tourout; in this second album his music is featured alongside works by his contemporaries Gaspar van Weerbeke and Heinrich Isaac as well as some anonymous works. All the compositions included in the CD appear in manuscripts of Central European origin.

The CD was officially presented in Czechia on 20 February following a concert by Cappella Mariana in the Prague church of Sts. Simon and Jude. The presentation took place at the initiative of Flemish Representative Koenraad Van de Borne, in the presence of Belgian ambassador Jurgen Van Meirvenne, Dutch ambassador Daan Huisinga, artistic director of Cappella Mariana Vojtěch Semerád, director of Passacaille Jan De Winne, and general director of the Alamire Foundation Bart Demuyt. The production and recording are dedicated to the memory of musicologists Jaap van Benthem (1937-2023) and Lenka Hlávková (1974-2023).

The research for this CD production was conducted by Antonio Chemotti and Jaap van Benthem.
