Since February, master's students at the LUCA School of Arts in Leuven have been able to follow a series of sessions on early music at the Alamire Foundation.

This 10-week elective programme is part of a new collaboration with LUCA, focusing on practical research. In this way, the Alamire Foundation is contributing to the development of new talent and providing young musicians with a deeper insight into plainchant and polyphony.

The course includes a general introduction to mensural notation and 'super librum' improvisation, the application of solmization, and an introduction to plainchant. The lessons are being given on a series of Fridays from February to May in the House of Polyphony by staff member Stratton Bull, alternating with guest teachers, and ending with final presentations at LUCA. The first sessions have been met with great enthusiasm from the students.
