This Ph.D. research aims to design, implement and evaluate a methodology for the recording, processing and auralization of church acoustics. A mobile measurement setup and protocol will be developed and used to initiate a database of spatial acoustic recordings in various churches that are historically relevant to the performance of plainchant music. Signal processing algorithms for the spatial analysis, modeling, and synthesis of these recordings will be designed, and a loudspeaker-array auralization method will be developed that allows for real-time and interactive auralization. Perceptual experiments with plainchant performers will be carried out to evaluate and calibrate the proposed methods.
